# Taking Over/ Transferring Ownership

## **Taking Over a Collaborative Conversation (Acquiring Ownership)**

Certain roles have the ability to *take over* a collaborative conversation, effectively becoming the primary handler. This action grants them the responsibilities and privileges associated with that role, such as the ability to end the conversation.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Who Can Take Over:** Only users with the **Administrator**, **Manager**, **Customer Service Manager, or Marketing** roles are authorised to take over a conversation.
{% endhint %}

* **The Process:**
 * Navigate to the top right section and click the avatar button.

 * A pop-up screen will appear. Your name will appear in the "Available for Follow-Up" list. Click on "Follow Up" to take over the conversation.

 * A pop-up will appear to confirm your settings. Click "Confirm" to fully take over the conversation.

 * After clicking the button, you will become the primary handler of the conversation. A system message will appear in the conversation to confirm this.
* **What Happens:**
 * The user initiating the takeover becomes the new primary handler.
 * The original primary handler is automatically transitioned to the role of a collaborator within the conversation.
 * An event message appears in the conversation (e.g., "Daphne took over the conversation").
 * The original handler receives a real-time notification of the takeover.

## **Transferring a Collaborative Conversation (Assigning Ownership)**

The act of *transferring* a conversation is distinct from taking it over. Transferring involves the current primary handler assigning their role and responsibilities to another collaborator.

* **Who Can Transfer:** Only the *current* primary handler has the authority to transfer a collaborative conversation.
* **Who Can Receive a Transfer:** The conversation can only be transferred to another *existing collaborator* within the same conversation. You cannot transfer it to someone not already participating.
* **The Process:**
 * Navigate to the top right section and click the avatar button.

 * A pop-up screen will appear. The list of the collaborators will appear for you to transfer the conversation to as the primary handler.
* Select the member to whom you want to transfer the conversation to, and a pop-up message will appear so you can confirm your settings. Click "Confirm" to transfer the conversation.
* You will see an event message appear on the conversation.

* **What Happens:**
 * The selected collaborator becomes the new primary handler.
 * The original primary handler becomes a regular collaborator in the conversation.
 * An event message appears in the conversation indicating the transfer and the new primary handler (e.g., "Daphne took over the conversation").
 * The *recipient* of the transfer receives a real-time notification.

## **Key Differences Explained:**

* **Taking Over:** This is initiated by a user with the necessary role and *does not require the current primary handler's action*. It's more of an acquisition of ownership.
* **Transferring:** This is initiated *by the current primary handler* to specifically assign their role to another collaborator. It's a direct handoff.
